Which Berry is best?
I was snacking on some strawberries this evening, and I had also eaten some earlier. It occurred to me that I had eaten over 1/2 pound of strawberries. So I googled, How many calories in a pound of strawberries. I was surprised by the answer.
A whole pound of strawberries has 151 calories. Guess what, they also gave nutrition information. Strawberries are a powerhouse of nutrition. They have no fat, 680 mg of potassium, only 34 g carbs, 22. g sugars 7.6 g fiber and 3.8 g protien!! Wow! and if that isn’t enough they also have vitamin C and magnesium. The best part of course is that they taste so good!
Now I was curious so I had to look at how the other berries weighed in:
Blueberries per pound – 261 Calories 1.5g fat, 349 mg potassium, 64 g carbs, 46 g sugar, 11 g fiber and 3.4 g protien. They also have cool stats in the vitamin column, containing Vitamins A, C, B-6, Iron, Magnesium and calcium. Not too shabby! More carbs and sugars if you are watching those, more fiber and vitamins too!
Raspberries per pound – 240 calories, 3 g fat, 686mg of potassium, 55 g carbs, 18 g sugar, 30 g fiber and 5.5 g protien. They also come in with the most vitamins so far with 197% daily value of vitamin C and more B-6, Iron, Magnesium, and calcium then the previous berries, and a small amount of vitamin A!!
Blackberries per pound – 195 calories, 2.2 g fat, 734 mg Potassium, 44 g carbs, 22 g sugar, 25 g fiber and the most protein at 6.3 g. They also have a large amount of vitamin C and the most Vitamin A and calcium, plus they have magnesium as well.
Best bet for low carbs and sugars is definitely the Strawberry!
Best way to add fiber to your diet, definitely the Raspberry with the Blackberry a close second!
Most vitamin C, Raspberries win again, Blackberry’s just a step behind.
